Last year Karen Newman (formerly of Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool and FACT, Manchester) and joined Coventry to be one of our new Research Fellows in the Centre for Disruptive Media. A key part of her fellowship was researching and developing the opportunity to create a new centre/hub in the Midlands with a focus on photography and technology. Later that same year Birmingham Open Media was born and set about opening its door just next door to the (soon to be completed) John Lewis at the fabulously redesigned Birmingham New Street station.
