Summary of my talk…

What happens if academia critically adopts the business concept: ‘disruptive technologies’? Is it, as the established-dominant form, truly vulnerable in a globally connected world to tech-enabled nimble start-ups? The Disruptive Media Learning Lab opened in 2014 as a semi-autonomous cross-University experimental unit, with the remit to break and remake ways of doing higher education. Created traditional practices and in response to the profound challenges affecting the established media landscape and the new ideas defining this new domain. This talk seeks to act as a catalyst for change, instigating a movement towards alternative (or new) mindsets on how we, may traditionally consider the rules for higher education. Responding to the profound challenges affecting the established media landscape and the new ideas defining this new domain, it will offer a journey through Coventry University’s ‘open-door’ educational explorations, and how learning to cherish the unexpected is a good thing.
