The Social is a regular bar night organised with The British Journal of Photography offering tips and advice in the world of photography. Enjoy a drink and listen to two specialists give advice about the topic for the evening.

Jon Bernstein is an award-winning journalist, editor and digital strategist. He was deputy editor, then digital director at New Statesman; multimedia editor at Channel 4 News; ran the Channel 4 FactCheck website during the 2005 general election; editor-in-chief of Directgov, worked in the Cabinet Office’s eGovernment Unit; editor-in-chief of dot com start up and technology website silicon.com. In 2011 he was named Website Editor of the Year by the British Society of Magazine Editors for newstatesman.com.

Jonathan Shaw is a photographer and educator based in the UK. His work has been published alongside photographic pioneers such as Muybridge and Edgerton. As Associate Head of the Media Department (Innovation, Profile and Research) at Coventry University he led the team which pioneered free and open photography educational resources. The classes picbod.org & phonar.org have been accessed by thousands of people all around the globe, the apps have been called groundbreaking and the iTunes U collection he curates has just surpassed its millionth listen.
