It was great to hear over Easter that the latest app that Jonathan has been working on was featured in the iTunes What’s Hot in Photography Apps!

Although, the class has now finished the app continues to allow it’s users access to its content and acts as a great resource for photographic inspiration!

It was great to hear Jason talk today to our #PICBOD 2012 students about the years he spent travelling across India ‘making portraits of the people I encountered along the way’.

During his time with us Jason has also been talking about his relationship to his grandpa’s photographic collection who was a photographer  for The Times of India newspaper working from their offices in Bombay in the 1930?s.

The residency has been generously supported by Arts Council of England and is in partnership with Pete James Head of Photographs, Birmingham Central Library and Jonathan Shaw Associate Head of the Department of Media, Coventry University.

Jonathan is very excited to announce the new #PICBOD 2012 app is now available to download from the App store. This is a builds upon the earlier #PHONAR app launched before Christmas that Jonathan worked on with the Serious Games Institute (SGI) and fellow CU Photography team member Matt Johnston.

The first #PICBOD app was conceived and developed by my colleague Pete Woodbridge together with the team and was talked about by the Times Higher Education, British Journal of Photography and Professional Photographer magazine and was described by Professor David Campbell as ‘an innovation in photography education’

We are really grateful for all the feedback we have received and have now been able to respond to that with #PICBOD 2012 v1.1. You can now take and upload your own photographs, there is enhanced sharing and you can now easily search all of #PICBOD posts to find exactly what you need!

You can download #PICBOD 2012 from the Apple App Store. An Android version is in the pipeline and should hopefully be available later this year.

Jonathan was delighted to be invited to join the Royal Photographic Society Education Working Group.

The working group includes Head of Photography and Film at the University of Westminster, Fenton Medallist Andy Golding; documentary filmmaker and media consultant Peter Hayes ARPS; Emeritus Professor of Imaging Science at the University of Westminster, Ralph Jacobson ASIS HonFRPS; Head of Photographs at Birmingham Central Library, Peter James FRPS; Photographer and Associate Head of Media and Communication, Coventry University, Jonathan Shaw FRPS; and Skillset’s Photo Imaging Sector Manager, Pippa Walkley.

This is the first of three Apps that Jonathan is working on in collaboration with the Serious Games Institute for the Open Classes that he oversees in the Department of Media at Coventry University. The #phonar app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch landed in the App store yesterday afternoon and is now available to download for free here.

The App provides easy access to the Photography and Narrative (#phonar) class run at CU Photography by Jonathan Worth, Jonathan Shaw and Matt Johnston. This is the second App built, following the success of the worlds first photography ‘class in an app’ last year.

The Photographic Mediations channel on iTunesU, that Jonathan established with the symposium (of the same title) he co-organised with Professor Gary Hall and Joanna Zylinska has now had over 700, 000 people tuning in. It has been ranked 2nd in the Fine Arts category and this year it has been recommended as ‘noteworthy’ alongside Universities such as Harvard and Stanford.

On the ground floor of a converted, Victorian-era cinema in Coventry, England, Jonathan Worth delivers a world-class photography lecture anyone can attend at any time, from anywhere, for free.

The green-tiled building stands on an otherwise typical city center street. From here, alongside teaching assistant Matt Johnston and boss Jonathan Shaw, they coral 28 attending students in addition to the few thousand clocking-in from across the globe. Continued…

An Ikon Gallery event with Jonathan Shaw, photographer and Associate Head of Media & Communication, Coventry University and artist Trevor Appleson. The speakers discuss the influence of Edweard Muybridge and Harold Edgerton’s photography on their recent work.

Jonathan has been awarded a Fellowship (FRPS) from the Royal Photographic Society. Chairman of the Fellowship Board Dr Michael Hallett said “Fellowship’s are awarded for excellence and distinguished ability, combined with evidence of originality and freshness in approach.”

This is a very exciting opportunity to work with this prestigious society in developing and promoting new opportunities for photographers to support their future.

Jonathan has been invited by Pete James, Head of Photographs at Birmingham Central Library and Ikon Gallery to talk about his work and its relationship to the pioneering work of Harold Edgerton. This new show pays reference to their first exhibition of his held in 1976. This was in fact the first European solo exhibition by the pioneering American scientist and photographer Dr Harold E. Edgerton.

I will post some more when I have some further information.
